Reader smolders over Corsair article "up in smoke"
Tieg Slattery, I'm confused as to your reasoning regarding the legalization of marijuana. At one point in your article "SMC student liberties 'up in smoke' to keep feds happy" you state: "It's really quite simple: take a vote, if the majority of the country supports legalizing marijuana-do it.

Immigration not a class issue
Tieg Slattery, Your opinion piece was flatly inaccurate and disturbing. To assume that the Arizona bill is somehow a result of an American classist attack on poor people is like saying any wealthy person who puts a home security system on his house is discriminating against poor people looking to steal his TV.

As a former police officer who arrested more people for marijuana than I care to remember, I’d like to commend Tieg Slattery for a thoughtful and well-argued piece in favor of marijuana legalization.

Please Tell Me That Was Supposed to Be Sarcastic
Dear Editor, The irony would be funny if it weren't also painful. I opened the Corsair, the issue from Wednesday, March 24th, 2010, and read the headline: America Is Slipping In Their Educational Standards. This is not a proper sentence, even allowing for the often compromised structure of newspaper headlines.

Bush and His Band
As a Republican, I resent your characterization of George "Bush and his band" as "bigots, homophobes, religious fanatics, racists and conservative zealots" (Staff Editorial, 2/23/05). I am a member of his "band," and none of these descriptors fit me or any other Republican I know.

To the students of Santa Monica College, I'm writing this as a warning to any of my fellow students who would dare park at Burger King on Pico, buy something from them, and leave the premises to go to campus, even for a few minutes.
