As Barack Obama was elected president last week, a huge victory against racism and discrimination was won. However, many saw another battle of comparable importance lost.

When California voters approved Proposition 8, it told homosexual couples that they no longer share the same rights as the rest of America.

It was bound to happen. Santa Monica improved to 2-4 in conference, 2-7 overall, separating themselves from East L.A. and Southwest, both sitting at 1-5 in conference. It wasn't the prettiest game to watch, but the end result was a success for the Corsairs, who celebrated the 50-year anniversary of the Junior Rose Bowl team.

After posting victories in their final two away games of the season, the Santa Monica College Lady Corsairs soccer team (12-2-5) is sitting delicately as the number 12 seed in the regional rankings for the regional playoffs coming up in two weeks. However, as the season winds down, the importance of finishing the season strong proves no more important than where the Lady Corsairs currently reside.

It can grow a new pair of heads every
Inspiring, thought-provoking, passionate and hopeful are just a few words one may use to describe an artist with as much talent as Benny Cassette, a rising but already very accomplished hip-hop artist. His music is in no way the shallow, morally unconscious garbage that fills a lot of the airwaves.

It may have been windy, but that did not ruin the 10th Annual Day of the Child which was celebrated at Santa Monica Pier on Sunday. Hundreds of at-risk and foster youth had a day of play as they enjoyed the rides at Pacific Park, ate foods ranging from ice cream to hot dogs, joined dance contests, crafts and finger-painting and enjoyed gifts from all of the sponsors who donated items for this event.

For the college student, studying can be an arduous task. The mere adage, "I've got to study" repeated over and over in one's mind can easily induce a rigid defense against why we shouldn't do it at all. Whatever the case might be, facing facts - we just have to buckle down and do it.

As anti-Proposition 8 marchers have been recently voicing their opposition to the proposition around the city, feminists have been more actively fighting for the equality that they feel they have been denied. Many people are still under the impression that feminism means women above men, and some even remain convinced that feminists are anti-men.
