Corsairs Ground the Owls

 SMC men’s soccer goes into conference season with a win against the Citrus College Owls.

On Friday, the Santa Monica College Corsairs men’s soccer team played their final non-conference game against the Owls from Citrus College at Corsair Field. The Corsairs came out on top with a final score of 4-1.

In the first half of the match, midfielder Roey Kivity gave the Corsairs an early lead in the sixth minute, making the score 1-0. Eleven minutes later, Corsair forward Jason Moreno doubled the lead after getting an assist from Omar Nieto and Josh McCowan. 

Towards the end of the first half, Owls midfielder Alan Lira assisted Isaac Ochoa for a tap-in at the 39th minute, keeping them in the game.

In the second half, the Corsairs scored again, making the lead 3-1 off of midfielder Logan Marc’s goal in the 65th minute. Just five minutes later, Corsair forward Jose Urdiano scored the fourth and final goal of the game.

SMC now sits on a 6-2-4 record, with conference play starting next week against the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros. The Corsairs will host their first Western State Conference match at Corsair Field on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.
