Men's Soccer Quickly Back to Winning Ways

The Santa Monica College Men's Soccer team beat Rio Hondo College with a score of 2-1.

On Friday, Sept. 23 the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs Men's Soccer team faced off against the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners at the SMC Corsair Field, winning with a score of 2-1.

SMC forward Alexander Lalor started off the scoring at the 36-minute mark, putting SMC up 1-0. The game remained quiet until the 80th minute when forward Adam Abou-Hamad scored again for SMC, putting them up 2-0. The Roadrunners eventually scored a goal 85 minutes into the game, but SMC was able to hold the lead and ended the game 2-1.

Lalor reflected post game about his performance and the teams.

“I was happy with my performance,” he said. “The teams performance, I was really happy.”

The men's team is 4-1-3 this season, and Lalor acknowledged that while there was still plenty the team could improve on, he felt positive about their performance.

“Excellence takes time, if it was quick everyone would do it,” he said, quoting a message from a locker room board he read.

Overall, Lalor is confident in the team and the outlook for the season. The next game is against Glendale Community College on Tuesday, Sep. 27 at SMC at 3 p.m.
