Corsairs sail past the Marauders
The Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs Men’s soccer entered Tuesday’s game on a two-game winning streak, facing off against the Antelope Valley College (AVC) Marauders at Corsair Field on Nov. 4. This match was an important conference game, with the Corsairs currently leading the standings with seven wins, no losses, and one tie, 7-0-1.
Both teams started slowly, struggling to establish a consistent offense. Gabe Mejia broke through first, scoring a goal with assists from Andy Salazar and Miguel Cano to give the Corsairs the lead. Later in the half, Kevin Martinez scored, finding the net off a goal kick past Marauders' goalkeeper Gregory Yepez Aburto, extending the Corsairs' lead to two goals.
The Corsairs maintained their momentum in the second half. Jefferson Parada scored an unassisted goal, bringing the score to 3-0. A few minutes later, Mejia recorded his second goal of the game. The Marauders made several attempts to attack, but Corsair goalkeeper Greg Georgantellis effectively blocked two shots on goal. Ultimately, the Corsairs secured a commanding 4-0 victory over the Marauders.
The Corsairs' next game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7, at Bakersfield City College Memorial Stadium, starting at 12:30 p.m
