Santa Monica College announces Fall 2025 Job & Internship Fair

Santa Monica College (SMC) will hold its Fall 2025 Job & Internship Fair on the main campus on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as students actively seek job stability and extra cash for the holidays.
“A variety of employers from different industries will participate in the Job Fair”, said Lisa Moss, a senior career service advisor at SMC. “Employers in the legal field, STEM, financial services, community services, education, manufacturing and production, sports and recreation, hospitality and the childcare industry, just to name a few.”
Many college students and recent graduates have taken to social media, primarily TikTok, to say, “The job market sucks.” They explain that their degree has done nothing for them and have raised questions on whether they’re overqualified or if artificial intelligence (AI), deportations and tariffs have something to do with the job market crashing.
“With the U.S navigating a $36 trillion debt, tariff tensions, and economic uncertainty, the specter of disruption from AI adds urgency for workers to protect themselves,” said Jack Kelly, a senior contributor at Forbes in an April 2025 interview, Forbes.com.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics , “The U.S unemployment rate is at 4.3%, and unemployed people at 7.4 million, which changed little in August.” Despite the high unemployment rate, SMC’s Job Fair allows students to avoid the job market and secure employment before transferring or graduating.
Although STEM sounds like an easy job for AI, those fields will still require human professionals. For instance, humans help AI with high-level reasoning, ethical considerations, and patient care. Students with high interests in sports can visit the sports and recreation employers, as “Jobs in the field range from coaching and management positions to instructors and trainers,” reported by Zip Recruiter.
With more employers registering to attend the job fair, Moss strongly encourages students to review the list of participating employers, then visit the Career Center to take advantage of their services. Students who are unable to attend the job fair still have a chance to get hired by one of the employers that come to campus. A list of registered employees will be posted on the smc.edu website under Career Services Center (CSC), allowing students access to contact employers directly to inquire about current job openings.
“The CSC staff is available and skilled at helping students create well-written, industry-standard resumes,” said Moss. “We also conduct mock interviews, provide tips on how to dress for the event and how to professionally approach employers.”
The CSC is open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
