A.S. announces free flower market for Women’s History Month
Santa Monica College Associated Students announced it will host a flower market on March 19, as part of its ongoing Women’s History Month events.
The event will be held at the SMC main campus Quad from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Students will be able to create free bouquets using flowers provided by a local vendor and enjoy French macarons from Nature Macarons, a woman-owned business based in Santa Monica.
Nahomy Rivas, A.S. director of activities, said the idea for the event came from a desire to bring an uplifting activity to students.
“I wanted to do bouquet making, and someone suggested paper flowers,” Rivas said. “But I thought, why don’t we just do real flowers? I think our campus is very in need of some joy.”
According to Rivas, Renaissance Flowers, a vendor in the Downtown Los Angeles Flower Market, sourced the flowers for the event, and the event was funded through SMC’s event funding process.
“There hasn’t really been an event like this on campus recently,” Rivas said. “It’s gonna be a really nice day out, it’s free, and students should take advantage of all the fees they pay on campus.”
