SMC Preps For Spring Club Awareness

Santa Monica College’s Inter-Club Council of Associated Students will host its biannual Club Awareness on Thursday, March 26. The event aims to increase membership in all 60 currently active student organizations on campus; however, participation is on a “first come, first served basis,” due to limited seating, said Nahomy Rivas, the A.S. Director of Activities.

Club Awareness will be held on the main campus quad from 11:15 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. “Students can expect a lot of free candy, free little knickknacks,” Rivas said. “They can expect people on the quad asking them to come to their table.”

Rivas said the event has been successful in the past but is still not as large as the similar Club Row event, a larger-scale event also held biannually during the fall and spring semesters.

According to Rivas, the A.S. Board of Directors approved $1,417.92 for Club Awareness.

One issue in hosting the event stems from the increasing number of off-campus organizations interacting with students, which may cause confusion in regards to which tables are on-campus clubs and which ones aren’t. “I hope students don’t think they are petitioners or are outside organizations,” Rivas said, but regardless, she believes the event will still be successful.

Rivas encouraged students to participate with an open mind noting that although many tables will be set up, each club is eager to welcome new members.

“These are on-campus organizations. They're lovely clubs,” Rivas said.

Club awareness is the last scheduled event for March, according to SMC’s spring semester 2026 activities calendar. Students can learn more about future events at A.S. director meetings — held every Monday at the Cayton Center from 3 p.m. to  5 p.m. — or through Instagram
