AS Board approves funds for Club Row
Multiple student clubs received extra funds for the Club Row table-judging contest during the Santa Monica College Associated Students Board of Directors meeting on April 27.
According to AS president Paola Vazquez Martinez, Club Row is meant to celebrate the clubs on campus while allowing them to compete for extra funding.
Every student club received $50 to compete, with the option to request more money at AS meetings, Martinez said. On Monday, the board approved $2,250 for the event and for 11 clubs to receive extra funding for decorations.
The theme for the spring semester 2026 is “Fairy Tales,” and the best three tables will split a cash prize of $300, Martinez said.
The winner receives $150. Second place receives $100, and third place receives $50.
“They’re really pumped,” she said. “Who doesn’t love the extra money?”
Martinez said she hopes that Club Row demonstrates to students the amazing community SMC has, saying the event isn’t just for clubs competing, “but also the students who are just coming to see what kind of community SMC has, especially a community that's made by students. That's also really what makes these events so important.”
Club Row will be held on Thursday, May 7, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. at the quad on SMC’s main campus. Students interested in learning about the list of clubs can visit the college’s website.
