Corsairs Sail Through Rough Waters as Losses Mount

The Santa Monica College Corsairs women's water polo team fell to the LA Valley College Monarchs 21-6 for its fourth loss in as many games on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026.
It has not been an easy start of the season for the Corsairs. With an official roster of only nine players, the team faces a higher risk of injuries, which could force the Corsairs to end their season earlier than anticipated. The team has struggled against opponents with deeper rosters.
After a 6-0 start by the Monarchs in the first quarter, the Corsairs scored in each of the remaining quarters.
Ashley Gonzalez led the Corsairs with four goals, bringing her season total to six goals through four games. Andrea Anaya and Daniela Prado Cota also made the score sheet with one goal each.
The Corsairs will face the College of Marin Mariners Friday, Sept. 25, at Mt. San Antonio College.
