Runway Our Way - Spring Fashion

Imagine putting on those sparkly Jimmy Choos straight out of the box from Saks Fifth Avenue. Now imagine zipping up the classic little black dress from Chanel. Tres chic and tres expensive. Someday I hope to buy a pair of $700 shoes, but as a full time (poor) student I haven't had the guts to spend that kind of money yet…YET. But that's what's Runway to Real Way is all about. Bringing the couture fashion out of the magazines and off the billboards and finding it on the streets and in local stores for a whole lot less. Looking good isn't just about spending the big bucks-sure it helps, but a true fashionista can make anything work.

In this weeks' video Alexis and I discussed how to make a distressed denim look work with some new spring trends like printed floral and fringe. In Isabel Marants' spring collection, fringe dominated the runway, while the models from D&G strutted down the catwalk in adorable shorts, shirts, and pants in delectable floral patterns. And of course, a little destroyed denim never hurts. The spring collections of Just Cavalli, Balmain, and D&G all included some fierce denim pieces.

But it's not just about all the fabulous clothes, my dears. It is how the clothes make you FEEL. Fashion is truly, at its' best, an expression of individuality. It's just as our first lady of fashion, Coco Chanel said, "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, and what is happening." Fashion is life.
