Open Season
As the number of vaccinated Californians rises and the number of COVID-19 cases continues to decline, California remains on a slow but steady pace toward reopening. Despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) guidance that allows for fully vaccinated people to enter public indoor areas unmasked, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the state's mask mandate will remain through June 15. With a majority of the state’s counties being in the orange tier, the state has hopes to reopen on June 15.
Paul Cornish Takes Residency at the 18th Street Arts Center
The 18th Street Arts Center supports artists from around the globe and showcases their artwork to the world. Their annual Make Jazz Fellowship, selected pianist and composer Paul Cornish, as their 2021 artist in residence. Cornish performed his original works in a free concert streamed from the iconic World Stage in Leimert Park, on April 25, 2021.
Teaming Up to Make Voting Accessible
Since the ongoing pandemic began in March, live sporting events inside stadiums have been cancelled for fans in Los Angeles. However, some L.A. sports organizations have come together to repurpose their stadiums to serve as polling places. Athletes have also taken part in voter advocacy, with many famous sports stars educating communities and motivating them to hit the polls in order to participate in the upcoming general election.

On Saturday September 5, 2020 The World Stage and Just Jazz presented, "Jazz Musicians United Against Racism," the second performance in an ongoing series which is live streamed in real-time. The event took place at the iconic World Stage venue in Leimert Park, South Los Angeles and was streamed via Facebook Live to over 1,000 viewers.
