A large painted sign hung in front of the library, the words, “First Amendment Month” written in imperfect calligraphy. This May is Santa Monica College’s (SMC) second annual First Amendment Month. SMC held a First Amendment Teach-In on Thursday to raise awareness of the amendment's implications.

On the second floor of a brightly lit Santa Monica food court, a woman in a white chef’s coat and black apron slips behind an inconspicuous door marked ‘Private.’ Inside is Chef Dave Beran’s intimate restaurant, Dialogue.

The room was filled with the sound of ancient televisions, the energetic clack and snap of the controllers, and the creatively varied insults from the mouths of the attending patrons. There was around twenty to thirty people, many of whom had just met in person for the first time, spread across the room huddled around the behemoth TV sets, intently focused on destroying their opponents.
