Skylight Books, one of the last independent brick and mortar retail stores in the Hollywood area, offers free events with author readings, and audience interaction almost daily. Supporting the literary arts and building an active community is one of Skylight's strongest points.  

Art gallery La Luz de Jesus' new art opening debuted on May 3, and runs through June 2. One room features a debut solo exhibition by Matthew Couper, and a second room holds a group exhibition titled “Onward.”

Jon Mayer (not the pop star) is a Jazz pianist who has recorded with John Coltrane and led bands with celebrated jazz musicians like Billy Higgins and Ron Carter. His career began in New York in the 1950s, and it took him to places like France where he performed with Chet Baker at the Blue Note Jazz Club. His path even landed him some gigs writing material for Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra.
