Corsair Brings Home 19 Journalism Awards

Santa Monica College's Corsair newspaper received major accolades last weekend at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges conference held at Cal State Fullerton.

The paper was recognized among 31 colleges, and over 400 students competed.

In total, The Corsair won 19 awards including 14 from the Spring 2008 semester under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief
Krystal Peak. Among the awards, this semester's Editor-in-Chief, Tom Wright, won first place for Online Photo. Photo
Editor Art Sanchez won first place for Feature Photo.

The Corsair Online received recognition for General Excellence.

During the live competion SMC won four awards: Aleksandra Ilicheva won second place for Opinion Writing and third place for Copy Editing. Mike Roach won fourth place for Opinion Writing, and Lisa Anderson won honorable mention for Critical Review.
