A.S Candidates For Spring 2019 Elections

Santa Monica College (SMC) held its Professional Development Day for the Spring semester on Thursday, March 14. Faculty and staff were given the opportunity to attend a workshop which highlighted the dramatic changes that will take place at SMC following the implementation of AB 705.

A large poster filled with messages from corner to corner was on the window behind Santa Monica College’s (SMC) bookstore. There were sentiments written in both English and Arabic, united in purpose — to stand against hate. Before the image was a flower-adorned podium, and a silent, diverse crowd, with some dressed in Jewish Kippahs on their heads and others wrapped in Keffiyeh scarves.

Oneil Spencer was driving down Wilton Street near his home in Koreatown when he noticed a wide divot in the road. He didn’t have much time to react, but he could tell it was deep enough to damage his car, so he swerved left into the next lane to avoid it.

The room was filled with the sound of ancient televisions, the energetic clack and snap of the controllers, and the creatively varied insults from the mouths of the attending patrons. Although 2019 is only three months in, there have been 206 cases of measles in the United States this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On February 19, the group “Informed Parents of California” put on a protest outside of school district offices in Chino, California, in response to the implementation of sex education curriculum under the California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA).
