Some SMC Programs Expected to Resume In Person Starting Spring 2021

On Sept. 21, Santa Monica College (SMC) officially announced that the Winter and Spring 2021 semesters will be online. However, some programs will have access to on-ground resources.

Students in the Nursing program and students preparing to be respiratory therapists are the only students currently allowed to have in-person training to meet the requirements for their degree. They will continue to have access to campus in the winter and spring.

Chief Adams, Head of the SMC Police Department (SMCPD), said that students who do not have access to computers are able to schedule an appointment at the SMC computer lab. Currently, only 2 students are allowed at a time for up to 3 hours and they must be approved 24 hours in advance.

Chief Adams also mentioned special circumstances in which students can come onto campus. Fashion students and cosmetology students may come onto campus to pick up loaner items such as sewing machines and cosmetic products. Students may also come onto campus when borrowing lender laptops or photography equipment.

Students may also go to the Bundy campus for free WiFi from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays; however they must stay in their vehicles at all times.
