Men's Water Polo Struggles to Stay Afloat

The Men's Water Polo team lost their first home game of the season.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs Men’s Water Polo team played against the Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Monarchs. The Corsairs lost to the Monarchs with a score of 23-4.

The Monarchs started off their offensive production strong with six points in the first quarter, while the Corsairs had no offensive production. The Monarchs continued their offensive in the second quarter, scoring four points. Driver Kristian Miranda was able to get a point for SMC with just over three minutes remaining in the quarter, ending the second quarter with a score of 10-1.

Miranda opened the scoring in the third quarter, making the score 10-2 with just over a minute gone in the quarter. The Monarchs added four more points to their lead in the quarter, and Driver Mikhai Davis closed out the third quarter scoring with another point for SMC with eight seconds to spare, ending the quarter at 14-3.

Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Dylan Hughes scored a point for the Corsairs, making the score 14-4. That would be all the offensive production for SMC in the game. LAVC added nine points onto their already substantial lead, ending the game with a score of 23-4. SMC is now 0-1 in the Western State Conference, and 4-5 on the season.

The next game is on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 a.m. at Saddleback College. The next home game will be on Friday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m.
