Santa Monica College Women’s Soccer Team Face Another Upset


For the second home game of the season The Santa Monica College (SMC) women’s soccer team hosted a match against the Golden West (GW) Rustlers on Sept. 16, at Corsair Stadium. The Corsairs were looking to get back into the winning column following their 3-0 defeat to the Chaffey College Panthers. Sunny, warm conditions made for a great day on the field..
The Rustlers wasted no time, attacking the goal early into the first half. l. Around the 5 minute mark, the Rustlers scored the first goal. The Rustlers would continue their offensive pressure throughout the first half by by pushing the ball down to the Corsairs’ side of the field.
The Corsairs took a more offensive approach going into the second half. . They had several chances in front of the goal. The Rustlers’ defense was led by goalkeeper Tessa Wenzel. With their strong defense, Golden West managed to shut down SMC. One of the better opportunities for the Corsairs to score came from midfielder Kobe Aguilar after her corner kick attempt. It landed in the middle of the field in front of the goal, but none of the Corsairs were able to kick the ball in for a goal.
With under 2:00 minutes to go in the game, the Rustlers succeeded in scoring a second goal in the second half. The final score was 2-0, with the Corsairs falling short. .
The next game for the Corsairs is Friday, Sept 19 at 1:30 p.m. at Norco Community College.
