Santa Monica College Men’s Soccer Team defeat the Golden West Rustlers 4-1

It was a warm sunny Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Corsair Stadium. With a new record of 3-0-3, following their win against Chaffey College, the Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs opened the home field for a match against the Golden West Rustlers, looking to start to uphold their winning streak.

10 minutes into the game. Corsair forward Gabe Mejia had a shot at making the first goal, but hit the goal post. Later in the first half, Corsair freshman forward Jefferson Parada scored the first goal of the game with a kick 20 yards left side of the goal. 

Continuing through the first half, the Corsairs’ and the Rustlers’ defense was strong, both teams preventing the other from mounting offensive attacks. The Rustlers would score a goal at 40:00 to tie the game, 1-1. 

After half time, the Corsairs’ made it clear the Rustlers were in their home. At 50:00, Corsairs’ Parada scored his second goal of the game. His outstanding header put SMC at a 2-1 lead. 

At 55:00 another header was banked into the goal this time by Corsair forward Danny Spindler banked a header shot into the goal. The Corsairs now lead the Rustlers’ 3-1. The Rustlers had a few shots on goal, but the Corsair defense held with defensive plays by midfielder (20) Leo Blanchet, The Corsairs did not allow the Rustlers’ to in the second half. 

The Corsairs’ continued to push the ball down field. Several attempts were made by SMC to continue to up the score, but were unsuccessful. At 75:00, Corsair midfielder Osvaldo Escobedo had a penalty kick blocked. Corsairs’ Miguel Cano scored his first goal of the game. After two forty-five minute halves the game would end, 4-1

The next game for the Corsair men’s soccer team is Friday, Sept. 19 to take on the Mustangs at Norco Community College.
