Frieze Art Fair at Santa Monica
Many international artists and galleries came together at the Santa Monica Airport on Feb. 26 for Frieze Los Angeles, a three-day art fair including galleries such as Pace, Carvalho, Proyectos Monclova and many others.
Frieze opened on Feb. 26 and concluded on March 1. An abundance of art displays could be seen throughout the fair, as well as the “Frieze Projects: Body & Soul,” an art piece where attendees could reflect on their bodies.
Frieze is an international art fair that connects artists and collectors to galleries in cities across the United States including here in Los Angeles.
“Frieze Projects: Body & Soul” offered an experience for the public to reflect on their bodies. Many artists displayed works throughout the fair that were open to the public to experience.
Santa Monica College alumni Cosmas and Damian Brown had an art installation displayed outside called “Fountain: Sources of Light.” The installation was an interactive piece that allowed audiences to touch and play with the sound of the water falling. It was a large steel piece that had four faucets on each side running water, with an option to change the rhythm of the water falling with ceramic vessels.
Brown also had many other pieces displayed around the installation for people to see, including six ceramic sculptures on top of painted metal barrels.. One of the ceramic pieces was a mountain-shaped sculpture that had holes for the smoke to disperse through, which had a unique smell.
Art pieces ranged from thousands to millions of dollars, and upwards of 32,000 visitors were in attendance.
