Corsairs Bombard the Beach

Santa Monica College has had an explosive start to its regular season in the Western State Conference and are now 3-1 over its last two double header matchups. With SMC winning both games 5-0, the Corsairs have found a way to reset and dominate their opponents.

“We found that some of the teams weren't actually fully engaged and didn't get into a flow state in their warm-up,” said coach Christian Cammayo in an interview, describing areas they were improving within the program.

As the Corsairs battled the intense heat, they first faced off against the 2-0 Bakersfield College Renegades in their opening matchup. Many of the players felt that the momentum carried over into their games, leading to a full sweep against the Renegades.

“I feel like my partners’ and I energy was fantastic. We also had a lot of our teammates coming over to support us after their games,” Kaylaya “Kai” Garcia said after her match in Court 4. The energy within the team was growing as they kept their momentum going.

After a short rest under the shade, the Corsairs faced Glendale City College. The Vaqueros struggled to keep up with the Corsairs, giving SMC a 5-0 win.

The Corsairs will face off at home against Cypress College and Lassen College in a non-conference matchup at Ocean Park North Beach Volleyball Courts on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
