A display case of letters written by the famous women’s rights activist, Alice Stone Blackwell, attracted a small crowd of museum visitors on Thursday March 5, during the grand opening of the “All Is Possible: Women’s Suffrage in California” Exhibition at the Santa Monica History Museum. John Maul is the solo artist of his own sold-out gallery exhibition in Los Angeles (LA). He also happens to be in his mid-sixties and have non-verbal learning disability (NVD). “Well, it’s not that he’s completely non-verbal,” explains Page Wery.

On February 29 was the official opening for the new exhibit Unreality at SMC’s Pete and Susan Barrett Art Gallery. Showcasing works by Lisa Adams and Kelly McLane. The exhibit is free and will be on display until Saturday, March 28.

On Saturday, Sept. 22, The Hammer Museum, under the guidance of curator Aram Moshayedi, will unveil their second exhibition for the season: Hammer Projects: Shadi Habib Allah. Allah’s creations will transport his viewers to Liberty City, an impoverished neighborhood of Miami, to examine its economic conditions, more specifically, corner stores.

The 18th Street Arts Center held the third annual Pico Block Party this Saturday, May 19 from 3-6 p.m. to promote youth voices by getting them involved in the community. The block party is a community arts festival that featured events for the whole family, with art workshops that kids could participate in, musical performances, artists' open studios, and food trucks for the hungry attendee.

After a very intense month of rehearsal, ranging from four to six hours a day, the cast of Moon Over Buffalo took to the Theater Arts main stage at Santa Monica College on Thursday September 28, 2017, for their preview showing. It takes place in 1953 and is about the madcap comedy, Moon Over Buffalo. 

On the evening of Tuesday, September 26th, Santa Monica College hosted a screening of the documentary West Los. “I’m not Charlie from Culver City, I’m just Charlie.” Charlie Chacon, a first time filmmaker from Culver City, says this to highlight why he is making this documentary. He has spent the last three years trying to create a film about how the lowrider culture within West Los Angeles was a way to unite former rival neighborhoods.

Stepping off of the Expo Line to arrive at Santa Monica College's new Center for Media and Design, can be very unfamiliar and confusing for students this semester. It is highly likely that students unfamiliar to the area might confuse Bergamot Station with their new campus. Since the new campus is very close to the station, it is easy to confuse Southern California’s largest single collection of art galleries for yet another satellite campus.
