Since typical social gatherings and public spaces have closed because of the virus, many people have turned to dating apps to continue dating throughout the pandemic.

Ten Women Gallery on Main Street in Santa Monica provides more than meets the eye.

Santa Monica College’s (SMC) fashion department partners with Lucky Brand to prioritize and encourage sustainability among their design students with a “chop shop” where they use recycled fabric scraps to create fashion collections.

“I am so proud of your generation. And all the work you’ve done. But there is still so much you guys need to accomplish,” states Maria Falzone, a comedian, turned sex-educator, who utilizes her comedic chops to educate young people on sexual-wellness.

Eclectic and traditional tastes come together across campuses to highlight SMC's proud cultural diversity, embracing the artistic pursuit of self-expression through fashion.

As many students adjust to classes whilst balancing jobs, internships, and other tasks this semester, eating healthy can seem daunting when there are only so many hours in the day. Luckily for Santa Monica College students, there are many options within the city to grab lunch that will fuel your body with enough energy to thrive during your busiest days.

Grab some sun screen, a hat, a few friends, and a water bottle and head down to the beach this weekend Saturday, September 15, and join the Coastal Clean Up Day effort! SMC students and staff will gather together on Pico and Bay Street in Santa Monica from 9 a.m to 12 p.m. to help clean up our beach. Free parking and water will be available for those attending the event.

Cyrille Njomo walks slowly from the Corsair Field to Starbucks, after practice, exhausted and weighed down by a huge backpack. Njomo is a member of the men’s soccer team at Santa Monica College, and like many other student-athletes, he sacrifices a lot in order to be part of the team. “I decided to be part of the team for the experience, my love for soccer and to be able to get a scholarship at the university," he said.

Santa Monica College clubs and organizations held the Students Feeding Students Farmers Market this Monday, April 16 at the school's Organic Learning Garden. The market has been a part of SMC's annual Earth week for several years, but has grown to include sustainability initiatives in addition to being a resource for food-insecure students.

Being a part of an honor society is something a student can list on their resume or transfer application while being able to get more involved in the school and community. These societies aim to help students succeed in their future endeavors by training them in leadership and responsibility.

The welcoming sound of piano echoes throughout the hallway behind Santa Monica College’s concert hall on the college's Performing Arts Center. Performing at the head of the class is Leo Rodriguez, 20, president of the Music Appreciation club who is excited to get the club up and running again for another semester along with previous members and newcomers.

Ascending the marbled stairs is a line of people in the sun during the Los Angeles Natural History Museum's Nature Fest on St. Patrick's day. As patrons enter the historical building, they are greeted by dinosaurs and delightful staff. Children run wild throughout the theme park for little thinkers.

On a bright, Sunday morning at the Row downtown Los Angeles in the historic LA Arts District, the enthralling smells of grilling meat, sweet baking bread, and exotic spices from dozens of vendors and food trucks crowd the recently-opened LA location for the popular Brooklyn-based food market, Smorgasburg. 

Inside the Center for Environmental and Urban Studies (CEUS), 15 students from Plastic Free SMC and Eco Action wait for the semester’s second meeting to start. The room is small, and people are sitting in a circle, some on chairs and others, the floor. The walls are filled with posters containing slogans like "You Can Stop Fish From Disappearing", along with other environmental-friendly signs. Then, Plastic Free SMC’s President Bronwyn Hancock Major walks in the room.

Hip Pop Rapper Hoodie Allen dropped his most recent album The Hype on Friday, September 29th. “I think Hoodie’s new album is so creative. I always found myself getting lost in the music throughout the album. Every track was so different, and you can see the hard work put into creating the project,” Hoodie Allen fan, Evan Brown-Bacchus said.

Earlier this week, Sustainability Week commenced with a number of events for Santa Monica College students to attend for free, including an art show, a documentary, lots of fruits and vegetables, and student-ran workshops. Hosted by the 18th Street Arts Center, the Pico Block Party gave local community members the chance to not only view local artworks and performances, but also participate in art-making workshops on Saturday, Oct. 14. The event's main attraction was to show that art can be both interactive and instructive at the same time.

Santa Monica College Student Health Services is raising awareness and urging prevention of Hepatitis A since the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced an outbreak of 10 cases on Tuesday September 19, 2017.

In an urgent need for blood donations, the American Red Cross is planning to host several blood drives in the coming weeks. Red Cross officials say donated blood is being shipped and used as fast as it is being gathered. “The blood supply is like a cell phone battery, it constantly needs recharging,” said Nick Gehrig, the communications director of Red Cross Blood Services.

Dotted along the coast of Venice Beach with a backdrop of grey skies, early morning beachgoers for miles carried buckets and scanned the sands. Instead of filling their buckets with typical beach treasures such as shells, stones, or the occasional starfish, these shore hunters were filling them with cigarette filters, straws, and plastic bottle caps.
