A man who stands a little too close, a wandering hand that "accidentally" brushes a woman's breasts, a lewd gesture, a crude remark – these are familiar scenes, ones experienced by countless women all over the world during their daily commute.

Volunteers for the Associated Students’ (A.S.) initiative to implement post-consumer composting on campus began holding their “pilot” event on Monday, May 13 in the Santa Monica College (SMC) cafeteria. The volunteers aimed to clarify common misconceptions about composting, and to persuade students to keep in mind whether their waste would be compostable.

On Tuesday, April 23 Santa Monica College (SMC) hosted yet another College Fair, bringing out colleges from across the nation to speak to students. Over 150 schools present, ranging from UCs and CSUs to private universities and international schools.

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, SMC invited Mary Bauer, a Holocaust survivor, to share her story.  Mary Bauer, 92, sits on stage before a large audience. Her voice does not waver. She remains steadfast and composed. For the most part, the audience remains somber. At times, however, their reaction to Bauer's words is palpable.

Dozens of Trump supporters gathered to protest California’s sanctuary state law (SB 54) on the corner of 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach on Saturday, April 27. On the evening of April 24, people flocked to Santa Monica City Hall decked in denim jackets, jeans and t-shirts. This crowd’s matching attire was no coincidence; all arrived to attend the city’s third annual Denim Day gathering. Santa Monica’s event was organized by the Commission on the Status of Women and included a multitude of speakers, performances and tabling by various sexual violence activist groups.

The students grasped their soldering irons with sweaty shaking hands as they attempted to melt metal onto the heart-shaped circuit boards in small exacting pinpoints. Keeping close as possible to their iron, white puffs of smoke rose to their faces as they tried not to inhale the potentially harmful fumes of burning metal.
