You may be wondering what I mean when I say dumb as a rock. There is a lot of shame around learning disabilities. People might be ashamed that they have a learning disability. Like me. I have a learning disability. I didn’t think that I would be able to make it in college, and now I am preparing to transfer to a four year university.

On Thursday, May 9, Santa Monica College's (SMC) Public Policy Institute hosted a panel discussion on potential solutions to California's housing crisis. The keynote discussion, which took place in the Broad Stage at the Performance Arts Center, was the culminating event of this year's Spring Symposium.

The Santa Monica College Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Tuesday to adopt goals aimed at aggressively combating racial inequities among students. A crowd of students and faculty members spilled into the overflow room and erupted into applause when the measure passed.

“Penguins," Disney’s newest addition to the Disneynature series, released on April 17, focuses on Adelie penguins-- often overlooked in favor of their taller, arguably more regal looking cousins, the Emperor penguins. The film captures Adelie in all of their awkward squawky glory.

On Tuesday, April 23 Santa Monica College (SMC) hosted yet another College Fair, bringing out colleges from across the nation to speak to students. Over 150 schools present, ranging from UCs and CSUs to private universities and international schools.

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, SMC invited Mary Bauer, a Holocaust survivor, to share her story.  Mary Bauer, 92, sits on stage before a large audience. Her voice does not waver. She remains steadfast and composed. For the most part, the audience remains somber. At times, however, their reaction to Bauer's words is palpable.

As the spirit of Earth Day—April 22—often inspires people to reflect on their treatment of the world around them, many find themselves realizing that they do not respect their planet as much as they would like to. However, this is not an irreparable relationship; environmentalists and activists all across the globe have been devising practices for decades that can help humans to coexist with nature, therefore conserving the earth and improving the overall well-being of society.
