This week’s contentious Associated Students (A.S.) election has seen the two presidential candidates, Olivia Taha and Kamiko Greenwood, trade blows with one another in various public forums. Both candidates have raised concerns about their opponents in the Candidate Forum hosted by The Corsair, and in meetings of the A.S. Board of Directors and A.S. Election Committee hearings.

On Friday, April 2 results for the 2021 Associated Students (A.S.) were posted onto the A.S. Election page of the Santa Monica College website.

The virtual Candidate Forum will serve as an opportunity for Santa Monica College students to find out more about the candidates running for positions on the A.S. board. The event is moderated by the Corsair’s Editor-in-Chief, Carolyn Burt. While the Corsair has hosted this forum for many years, this marks the first time the forum will take place virtually over zoom.

Breakdown of Candidates running for Associated Students

Many Santa Monica College (SMC) students don't know the name of their student government, let alone its role in student life and affairs — especially in pandemic times.

The Corsair is holding a Candidate Forum for the Santa Monica College’s (SMC) student government, Associated Students (A.S.), elections this Sunday, March 27, at 5 p.m.

The results for the 2020 Associated Students (A.S.) election were posted at 12 PM on Wednesday, March 27 on the A.S. Election page on the Santa Monica College website. There is yet to be an official announcement from the A.S. board.

The total voter turnout was 490 students. There was a 79% drop in voter turnout from the 2019 election cycle, in which there were 2,327 total votes.

A simplified top-three list of what each A.S. Director is responsible for and a further breakdown of the organizations/committees they work with.
