Nov. 2 ballot measures given unanimous trustee support
November 2 ballot measures Y and YY have been given unanimous support by SMC's board of trustees, even though they may not provide the funding to Santa Monica city services that they propose to do on the ballot.
Emeritus class cuts anger local residents
College administrators have proposed that up to 38 health and fitness classes are dropped from the Spring schedule of classes at Emeritus college. This has caused uproar amongst those in the local community who view theses classes as essential to their quality of life.
Following up accreditation at SMC
Although Santa Monica College received accreditation during the summer, the accreditation board have insisted upon further follow ups before they are satisfied that the college meets all their requirements.

Four honored with awards of excellence
Every few years, the President's Circle Chair of Excellence presents four Santa Monica College professors with an award for outstanding work in their field. Accompanying the award is a $5,000 prize the recipient can put towards student related projects. This year's winners were professors Garen Baghdasarian who is winning the award in Life sciences, Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein in Philosophy and Social Science, Marc Trujillo in Fine Arts, and Saul Rubin in Communication.
New cafeteria on everybody's lips
During the summer, Santa Monica College spent approximately $440,000 renovating the cafeteria. Aside from the cosmetic facelift and the new eateries, the whole complex was structured so that it adhered to more sustainable guidelines. However, student opinion regarding the refurbishments has been split. Some believe that it is a vast improvement upon the old cafeteria while others that the food now available is sub-par and overpriced.

Prop 8 borders on conclusion
After being on hiatus for months the Proposition 8 trial is set to hear closing arguments on June 16, 2010. Proposition 8 was passed in 2008 which immediately put a ban on the right of gay couples to marry.
