An Oscar Season in Chaos
Following significant backlash from filmmakers and fans alike, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced it will broadcast all 24 Oscar categories live and unedited. This follows their earlier decision to present four awards during commercial break. The categories were Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Live Action Short, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

This scene was the result of a flash flood warning halting construction progress on Santa Monica College’s (SMC) awaited Malibu Campus.

On June 14, 2014, China’s State Council released an outline that detailed the plan to construct the world’s first comprehensive “social credit system” by 2020. In function, this social credit system, or “social trust system,” as it has recently been relabeled, is meant to quantify each individual Chinese citizens’ or businesses’ trustworthiness by scoring them in “personal trustworthiness points.”
Asylum Seekers Displaced from Shelters by Heavy Rains
Over five thousand migrants were sheltered at the Benito Juarez Sports Complex in the Zona Norte neighborhood of Tijuana, Mexico, until rain left the facility flooded. Less than a week later, the majority of the migrants were moved to a new shelter ten miles southeast of the previous one, yet some remain outside of Benito Juarez.

This time in his native country of Mexico to film what is perhaps his most personal film to date: “Roma." The film is named after the neighborhood where Cuarón grew up in Mexico.

Fire Breaks Out at SMC Emeritus Campus
On Monday, November 26, the Santa Monica College (SMC) Emeritus campus was evacuated in response to a fire emergency that occurred that afternoon. At 4:06 p.m., the Santa Monica College Police Department (SMCPD) received a phone call claiming a fire had erupted on the second floor of the SMC building, in downtown Santa Monica.

SMC mens soccer defeated the Santa Ana Dons 2-1 on Tuesday, November 20. SMC has never made it this far into the CCCAA playoff tournament, just one win away from the state championship game.

SPORTS: UCLA Outlasts USC in 88th Meeting Between Bruins & Trojans

Inside Tijuana's Largest Migrant Shelter
Over a thousand Central American migrants have made their way to Tijuana, Mexico after an on-foot journey from Honduras. A caravan of over two thousand people left Honduras on October 13 to flee poverty and violence, according to CBS News. Their plan was to travel through Guatemala and Mexico to eventually reach the United States to seek asylum.
