In Hong Kong, pro-democracy camp's protest marches have filled the streets for over one hundred days. The often violent clashes between Hong Kong citizens and riot police cracking down on protesters is a thorn in the side of Beijing. The authoritarian regime on the mainland desires to display the face of calm unity in its celebration of the 70th anniversary of the declaration of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on Oct. 1.

One would think with all the shoddy work the Trump Administration has done and with all the ridicule they've received, there would be no more new ways to mock them. Then Walmart comes in to enact gun control measures in their stores after two major shootings affected their branches. Meanwhile, the U.S sits at around 300 mass shootings with no major solutions, according to the Gun Violence Archive website.

Disney+ is an upcoming streaming service owned by the Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International Division of The Walt Disney Company. The service will be filled with content from Disney's main entertainment studios, including Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, National Geographic, and includes some films from 20th Century Fox. 

The SMC Corsair’s Women’s Volleyball team were looking to earn their first win of the season against Cuesta. In failing to do so, they fell to Cuesta in three sets making this their ninth straight loss in a winless season.

In 2018, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) reported that there are an estimated 129,972 homeless people in California. Of that number, roughly 52,765 resided in Los Angeles County, according to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). In the past year since these findings, there has been a 12% increase of homeless people in LA, up to nearly 59,000.

Throughout the month of September, different organizations have been using their platforms to publicly address issues pertaining to diet culture and weight stigmatization. Louis Vuitton is a name that has stood the test of time for over a century. In honor of 160 years, Louis Vuitton’s Brand Representative decided it was time to educate society about the global fashion empire’s history, and came up with a global exhibit known as Louis Vuitton X. This exhibit will be on 468 N Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills and go from June 28th to November 10th. Many of these global exhibits feature collaborations with Louis Vuitton and famous artists from around the world.

SMC's Barrett Gallery hosts "Made in California: Contemporary Art from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation", providing a peek into a collection of work documenting influential artists of LA from the 1960s to the present.

As students make their way inside The Center of Media and Design’s (CMD) auditorium wearing all sorts of footwear on Sept. 23, guest speakers and award-winning filmmakers Josh and Rebecca Tickell chose to welcome the crowd, barefoot.

Architect, artist and designer Candy Chang, alongside writer and graphic designer James A. Reeves, are responsible for creating the Annenberg Space for Photography’s first ever public art installation to hit the streets of Los Angeles. This installation was made up of three walls, which were located at different landmarks across the city. Each wall represented a different emotion.

The Santa Monica College Corsairs fell to the Bakersfield Renegade 41-6 to open up their first home game of the regular season. Coming off of a 49-0 defeat from Desert prior, this marks a two-game losing streak with a total overall of 1-2.

Bikes, skateboards, and rollerblades cruised the shut-down streets of Downtown Santa Monica in celebration of the annual COAST Festival on Sunday, Sept. 15. The city closed sections of Ocean Avenue, Colorado Esplanade, and Main Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide a car-free space for people to ride freely.

Santa Monica College's (SMC) Associated Students (A.S.) are currently planning the school's first Indigenous Peoples' Day event on the main campus. A.S. hopes to bring an event that focuses more on the celebration of Indigenous people rather than Christopher Columbus.

Pedestrians walking along Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, Calif. cheered on protester Therese Sweeney on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 17. Therese, a 68 year old retiree, wooed honks from cars stuck in rush hour traffic, as a group of LAPD officers monitoring President Trump’s arrival huddled up for a coffee break nearby. Therese was one of the peaceful demonstrators who turned out to protest the President’s arrival at Santa Monica Airport on one of his infrequent visits to California.

California Governor Gavin Newsom and state legislature have approved a large budget increase for California community colleges. The increased funds will go towards extending the 'California Promise Program' to a second year as well as the first.

The Cayton Center on the main campus of Santa Monica College (SMC) will be updated this semester with a $12,000 budget with the hopes of providing a better on campus experience for students.

SMC's Student Trustee Brooke Harrington is looking to SMC students first for ideas on possible new Cayton Center updates and uses, asking students for their suggestions on how the popular student lounge should be updated. Harrington has asked students to write down their needs on post-it sticky notes and hang them on a poster in the Cayton Center designated for this activity.
