SMC Students Faced With Information Leak

A student information breach occurred at Santa Monica College (SMC) on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020. The Latino Center sent an email out to 321 students in the Adelante Program to promote an upcoming Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) workshop; however, a document was mistakenly attached that contained the personal contact information of over 300 students including their names, home addresses, and SMC student identification numbers.

Santa Monica College Begins Second Year of Title IX Leadership Program

Santa Monica College (SMC) kicks off the semester with a program geared to educate students and shift the culture and conversation around sexual violence.

SMC will begin the second year of its Title IX Leadership Program for Students this coming Thursday, Sept. 10. The free series of workshops are designed to raise awareness and promote student empowerment, particularly in the areas of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

SMC Now Using Proctorio, an Online Monitoring Tool

On March 19, Santa Monica College (SMC) faculty received an email with the subject line “Proctorio -- test proctoring software now available” from Interim Dean of Instructional Services, Jason Beardsley. The email explained that an online software known as Proctorio had become available to all SMC faculty that use Canvas, in an effort to “enhance academic integrity by monitoring each student’s behavior during an exam.”
