The Cayton Center Lounge was packed with students on Monday, April 23, when the Associated Students Board of Directors met for their weekly board meeting. Most items on the agenda passed; however, a request for catering for this year’s Graduation Reception was denied in a vote of 6 to 5.

Njomo is a member of the men’s soccer team at Santa Monica College, and like many other student-athletes, he sacrifices a lot in order to be part of the team. “I decided to be part of the team for the experience, my love for soccer and to be able to get a scholarship at the university," he said.

The Corsairs win 3-2 against the Oxnard Condors to end their seven-game losing streak on Thursday, April 19 in their penultimate game of the season.

Santa Monica College clubs and organizations held the Students Feeding Students Farmers Market this Monday, April 16 at the school's Organic Learning Garden. The market has been a part of SMC's annual Earth week for several years, but has grown to include sustainability initiatives in addition to being a resource for food-insecure students.

Members of the Santa Monica College Associated Students board were joking amongst themselves and the atmosphere was jovial as the board met in their Cayton Center conference room after classes resumed after spring break.

This is a response to Francisco Munoz’s Op-ed, “Associated Students? More like Isolated Students.”

As a preface, let me make it clear that I thought it was a well-written and thoughtful article, but I feel compelled to respond to (and elaborate on) a couple of points that I find to be particularly important. For the sake of clear organization, I will copy and paste three central paragraphs from Mr. Munoz’s article before I write my response to them. Let us examine the following passage:

The Santa Monica Corsairs lose 3-1 against the Long Beach City College Vikings in the final home game of the season this Wednesday, April 11.

The Santa Monica Corsairs lost 11-8 to the Moorpark Raiders on Tuesday, April 10, but showed improvement since the 11-3 loss the last time they played together in early March.
