The last A.S. meeting of the year was a flurry of activity, as the board moved to pass a total of 11 major action items. Among the items passed were two projects that board members were personally interested in, namely an end year ball organized by the A.S. in lieu of a private celebration for themselves, as well as an effort to make SMC's designated smoking sections more eco-friendly.

At the penultimate meeting of the 2017-18 Santa Monica College Associated Students board, professors Fariba Bolandhemat and Angie Misaghi were invited to speak to board members and students about how they can save money on textbooks by taking classes that use open educational resources (OER) materials.

“Learn about different industries and positions that are available that could potentially lead to a job in the future.”

The city of Santa Monica is co-hosting climate fest on Saturday, May 19.
