jackie sedley

Of all of the things in her life that she’s yet to figure out, Jackie Sedley has always been sure that her purpose lies in journalism. She has worked with The Corsair for a year-and-a-half now, and acted as Editor-in-Chief last semester. She currently interns in the News Department at KCRW, and has hosted and produced several podcast episodes of her own. She plans to dedicate her career to uplifting voices that often get talked over in mainstream media, travel and live on every continent for at least one week, and dismantle the unrealistic norms society convinces us we must abide by in order to succeed.

My favorite photographers are Graciela Iturbide, Sebastiao Salgado and Diana Markosian. I began my photo journey through a non-profit called Venice Arts, documenting my personal story into photo books. I have experience as a photography mentor to teenagers through Venice Arts and The Pablove Foundation.

I was born and raised in the Italian part of Switzerland. I moved to LA in 2 years ago after I completed my studies in philosophy and Italian literature. I used to write for a Swiss-Italian magazine about relationships between different generations (teenagers-adults), and sometimes I help journalists with translations during interviews. English is not my first language, I am still improving my skills.

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Shannon obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and worked in Dubai for seven years before returning to the United States. She co-hosted an Arabic talk show with Dubai TV and enjoys sharing stories related to the Arab community, real estate, and lifestyle.

My name is Paige Strickland, I have been working as journalist/photographer for the last two years. I have had the pleasure of working with Marquee Marauders Club and MXDWN, attending live and live streamed concerts as press. In addition, I have now launched my own independent site, Airbag Magazine, which features local Los Angeles visual artists, musicians, and organizations alongside music, television, and film reviews.

Drew Andersen grew up in the creative cultures of Greenwich Village, Berkeley, San Francisco’s North Beach, Haight-Ashbury and Marin. He created Bay Window™, an entertainment publication, while earning a Master’s Degree in San Francisco. He did field archaeology in Sinaloa, Mexico. Traveled extensively in Japan and People’s Republic of China. Drew served as an advertising executive in the healthcare industry and lives in Santa Monica. His passion for producing pictures and stories is a good fit working with the Corsair’s multimedia platform and L.A.s diverse cultures.

Jack Hughes is a Political Science Major who has worked for The Corsair for over a year. In his tenure at the paper, Jack has written political stories on a local, state, and national level, as well as investigative on-campus pieces. He is actively involved in local politics, moderating debates and writing articles for his city newspaper. Separate from the academic sphere, he enjoys spending time with his friends, his family, and his labrador.

Sonia is the Design Director at The Corsair. Born and raised in tropical Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia she moved to California to pursue her dreams of becoming a screenwriter. When not writing for The Corsair, she enjoys baking, solving mysteries, camping, making animations and apologetics.
