With The Conjuring: Last Rites debuting in theaters Sept. 5, ratings have significantly dropped compared to the first movie of the franchise, “The Conjuring” which was released in 2013. Have horror movies really decreased in quality?

Santa Monica College (SMC) took a visit to Los Angeles Valley College (VC) at Monarch Stadium, Saturday, Sept. 27. The day started out overcast, but surprisingly hot and humid. Both teams showed high energy during their warmups. 

LA Opera opened their 40th season with a free live simulcast of ‘West Side Story’ to the Santa Monica Pier on Sept. 27. SMC Symphony Orchestra played a selection of pieces before the broadcast began, while patrons enjoyed activities such as face painting, caricature artwork, and learning more about Heal the Bay through a live baby swell shark on display. 

Santa Monica College students have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with companies actively seeking new hires on Oct. 2. 

After 162 games and 4 bobblehead nights Shohei Ohtani is still taking the baseball world by storm in his second year with the Dodgers. Japan has also been caught in this storm of their own star. In March of this year one Corsair writer went to Japan and saw how popular Ohtani truly was.

 In a quick set of three, the Corsairs took down the Vaqueros, redeeming themselves from consecutive losses while achieving their third straight victory.

In a five set battle The Santa Monica Corsairs Women’s Volleyball team defeated their conference rivals Moorpark Raiders on Sept. 19.

The new library Department Chair Roxana Cruz put on Coffee with Librarians at SMC for the first time on Sept. 18. Students were invited for free coffee, donuts, and the opportunity to learn more about all the resources SMC has to offer.

After a weekend of protest and praise, ABC reinstates Jimmy Kimmel after indefinitely suspending him for his comments about Charlie Kirk’s murder.

SMC Students attend the Latinx/e Connect: Cultura, Community, and Comida event held on Sept. 19. It allowed students to celebrate the Latinx/e culture, community, and identity while highlighting resources the campus has to offer.

Santa Monica College (SMC) held their annual SMC Startup event on Tuesday Sept. 16. Offering students a chance to learn more about campus resources, clubs and services that are available to them. Corsair reporter Kollin Zullo talked to students and staff at the event to learn more!

With food, games, and music, SMC Start Up brought students and faculty together to explore the wide variety of resources available on campus.

Santa Monica Sustainable Works hosted sustainable landscaping education and instruction outreach on Sept. 13. Spreading awareness of all the resources available to the community.

Santa Monica College (SMC) held a Coastal Cleanup day at their adopted historic beach, the “Inkwell”, on Sept. 20. Students gathered to pick up trash all along the beach, learn more about what makes up our trash and recycling, as well as the historical significance of the site.
